Do I need to download the video first?
No. Paste a public video link and we retrieve the audio for transcription. If a platform link is unavailable, you can upload an MP3, MP4, WAV or M4A file you are authorized to use.
Does it work if the video has no captions?
Yes. Speech recognition reads the audio track, so captions are not required. A video description is never substituted for a transcript. Silent and music-only clips are rejected without a transcript charge.
Can I paste a link copied from the Instagram app?
Yes. Use the full share link, including its parameters. We resolve the video identity before removing unrelated tracking information. Instagram /share/ links are supported by the resolver workflow.
TXT, SRT, VTT or DOCX: which should I choose?
TXT is free plain text. SRT is for video editors, VTT is for web players, and DOCX is an editable Word document. Upgrade a free transcript for 1 credit to unlock all three paid formats for that task. Paid transcriptions include these exports at no extra charge.
What’s the difference between captions and subtitles?
Both display timed text alongside a video. Captions can include non-speech information such as sound effects; subtitles typically focus on dialogue. This tool transcribes spoken words in the original language and does not translate them.
Which languages are supported?
Verified language codes: en. Use automatic detection or select one of these languages. Accuracy varies with speech clarity, accent and background noise.
Is there a length limit?
Free transcripts cover videos up to 5 minutes. Longer paid processing has a separate limit that will be published after validation. The service checks duration and shows the credit quote before processing.
How many transcripts do I get for free?
You get 3 successful transcripts per day, each up to 5 minutes. The allowance resets at 00:00 UTC and does not roll over. Free processing is subject to the trial budget; any pause is shown before you begin.
What happens if the transcription fails?
You are not charged if we cannot deliver a valid transcript. Reserved credits and free attempts are released. The result explains the reason, such as a private video, missing audio or a service timeout.
Do I need a browser extension?
No installation or extension is needed. Paste a link directly into this page.
Can I transcribe several videos at once?
Yes, batch mode is a paid feature for signed-in users. Submit up to 20 mixed TikTok and Instagram links. Each task has its own status and charge; a failure does not affect successful transcripts.
Can I edit the transcript afterwards?
Yes. Edit each timestamped segment directly. Your changes are saved without changing the original timestamps, and exports use your edited text.
Do you store my videos and transcripts?
Media is deleted after processing and within 24 hours. Guest transcripts expire after 7 days and are tied to this browser. Account transcripts remain until you delete them. Results are private, excluded from search indexing and never reused as website content.
Is ShortTranscript affiliated with Instagram?
